Tarakihi is a highly regarded fish commercially and sought after by recreational anglers.
They are generally found in schools, at depths up 100 to 250 metres. Known for their longeivity, many adults are 10-20 years old, with some even reaching 50 years of age.
Tarakihi, or Ocean Bream is common around New Zealand. They are silvery-grey, with a blue-green sheen, which shades to silver and white on the belly. There is a distinctive black band immediately behind the head.
Large Tarakihi have been known to reach up to 5-6kg in weight.
